How I feel Passing Out From NYSC In Few Weeks

This is a tough one but I’ll just document this here on my blog. If you don’t know, I am currently a National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) member serving in Oyo State Nigeria. I am so happy I’ve been documenting that journey here on my blog right from going to Orientation camp, finding accommodation and creating a checklist to help future prospective corp members not forget anything while packing to go camping. Phew! It was just like yesterday and I can’t believe in July, this will be all over.

PS: NYSC is the acronym for National Youth Service Corps, a one-year program set up by the Nigerian Government to involve the country’s graduates in the development of the country. We go through three weeks of orientation in camp and spend the rest of the year serving the country in whatever assigned state and institution (schools, hospitals, ministries and so on).

Overall, I don’t regret serving and being posted to Oyo State. It was a whole new experience for me. Just so this post doesn’t become unnecessarily long, I’ll just drop my feelings on this in few bullet points.

1. I made amazing friends and I am so grateful for that. Right from Orientation Broadcasting Service (OBS) in camp, these amazing humans I call friends today make every moment of my stay here in Oyo State worthwhile. I feel so lucky to have like-minded and sensible humans like them as friends. Shout out to you Abigail, Salome, Tope, Ayodeji and Jesse. I love you guys so much. Thank you. Jeez! Did I just tear up now? Okay, let’s move to the next one.

2. Change of environment: I cannot even begin to explain how this service and total change of environment has aided my mental health. Being someone that grew up in Anambra state and schooled there up to University level, moving out entirely to experience another culture and state was a lot of relief for me.

3. I have a beautiful sense of maturity: Moving to a new place entirely, finding accommodation myself, making new friends and so on gave me this sense of maturity and control as an adult and I love it. It changed my perspective in ways I can’t even explain and made me learn to make better choices and of course, cut my coat according to my size. Lol!

Finally, I like to say my batch and that of 2019 Batch B Stream 1 plus many others to come are the lucky corp members. We are enjoying 33, 000 Naira allowance as opposed to the 19, 800 that was the initial payment. Lol! So yeah, that’s a benefit too.
I’ll be here in June when I finally pass out of service to share more with you but this is all for now.

If you are going to camp soon and feel overwhelmed about what and what not to pack or buy to avoid excess load, I created a checklist for you. Click HERE to get yours. Tell your friends about going to camp too! They need this checklist as well.
