DIY Black Soap Shampoo Recipe

Here are tools you’ll need to mix your black soap shampoo:

• Large or small mixing bowl depending on the quantity you’d love to make.
• Airtight storage bottle

How To Make African Black Soap Shampoo

To make the black soap shampoo, you’ll need:

• Raw black soap bar or the powdered one
• Clean/filtered water
• Honey (You can use glycerin in place of honey if you do not have honey at the moment. Honey and glycerin are humectants which will leave your hair moisturised and not frizzy after washing)
• Extra Virgin Olive oil
• Rosemary Oil
• Coconut oil

(Note: The ingredients can be as basic as raw black soap, filtered water, honey and any oil you have but if you have all the above-listed ingredients and more, it’s fine Love!)

Directions To Make Black Soap Shampoo

• Grate or break the black soap bar into pieces and place in a large bowl.
• Boil the clean/filtered water.
• Pour the hot water over the grated black soap in the bowl.
• Stir slowly and allow the mixture to sit until totally melted.
• When the mixture is warm, add 6-10 drops of vitamin E oil, some honey and the aforementioned oils (depending on what you have and can afford. Don’t break a bank! Lol!)
• Allow to cool. Once cool, some of the ingredients will settle or separate. Gently stir with spoon and store in an airtight container or plastic bottle.

Anytime you want to make use of the shampoo, shake gently so all the settled ingredients will mix together again.

Can I Use Dudu Osun To Make Black Soap Shampoo?

Yes, you can use Dudu Osun black soap bar to make your black soap shampoo. All you have to do is to cut it into small or medium sizes, melt with warm water, add the aforementioned oils, aloe vera if you wish and honey/glycerin to infuse its humectant properties.

How To Use African Black Soap Shampoo On Natural Hair

Using black soap shampoo to wash your hair is easy. As you would normally wash and massage your scalp on wash day with a store-bought shampoo, apply it directly on your scalp and massage with the tip of your fingers not your fingertips to avoid scalp injury. You can also use a scalp massager as well. Then allow the foam of the shampoo from the scalp to run down your hair and finally rinse off. Is African Black Soap Shampoo Good For Low Porosity Hair?

Of course! I use it on my low porosity 4c natural hair and it cleanses my scalp well. Low porosity hair is mostly prone to product build-up because the cuticles are so close together. So, if you feel sulphate shampoos thoroughly remove these build-ups but leave your hair really stripped, you should try using a black soap shampoo or make yours with the recipe above. How Long Does DIY Black Soap Shampoo Last?

DIY (Do-It-Yourself) black soap shampoo lasts up to two-three months depending on how you store it. After making it, put in the fridge and when you are about to use it, bring it out of the fridge 30-35 minutes prior to washing your hair to de-freeze. However, if you have no time to wait for 30 minutes before usage, simply put the shampoo which is in the airtight storage bottle in hot water to warm it up. Then shake and use it to wash your scalp and hair!
